Why Journalism?

As a matter of fact, I have always been into writing different stuff such as short stories, pieces of poetry, and whatever my imagination could cook up. When I was a child, I used to ask my father to read my writings and check them for me for any grammatical or even spelling mistakes. At that time, the white papers were my only own window to the world, my own microphone, and my own camera. I have always felt the urge to delve deeper into my inner self in order to come up with new insights that mirror my perception of the outer world.

When I graduated from secondary school, I had the ambition to be a journalist. Unfortunately, the only university in my city did not have a department of Journalism and Media at that time and it was so difficult for me to enroll in other journalism programs at other universities. Therefore, I decided to study English literature taking into consideration that most of the popular Arab journalists and TV anchors hold Bachelors and even Ph.Ds in English literature. After 4 years of hard work, I graduated from the faculty of Arts and humanities at Tishreen University and got my Bachelor of Arts in English literature. I decided to go further, so I enrolled in the postgraduate translation program at the same university, and it took me a year to get a Diploma in Translation and Arabization.

After working as a translator for many years, I realized that translation has given me the opportunity to become a translator and a journalist at the same time in a way or another. It was like wearing a double-faced coat beautifully embroidered on both sides. However, my thirst for journalism has not been quenched.

Thus, I decided to start publishing my own writings. I published several articles on a number of blogging platforms such as Huffpost Arabi, ArabicPost, Dubarah blog, Canvas, Oxygen, and other social media platforms. To cut to the chase, journalism is what I like to do. It is part of who I am and who I would like to be in the future. I aspire to be the voice of those who spent their entire life in utter silence. I believe the Journalism Program at Humber will pave the way for me to start my own journey.
